Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, which was believed to be the inspiration for Mayberry, the setting of The Andy Griffith Show. Growing up, Andy cultivated a love of music, humor and acting. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a monologist and obtained a chart hit with his story "What It Was, Was Football" during the 1950s.
