Today in country music history:

1999 - EMI offered retailers a rebate of three dollars for every copy they sold of the Chris Gaines album, In...The Life Of Chris Gaines. That’s the rock album Garth Brooks released as his alter ego. Retailers were also asked to lower the price on the album as much as possible in order to help boost sales.

1961  - The Elvis Presley film Blue Hawaii premiered.
