2006 - The Wreckers earned a number one hit with their debut single "Leave the Pieces."
2005 U2, Alicia Keys, Garth Brooks, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and the Dixie Chicks were among the artists who performed during the live telethon, Shelter from the Storm: a Concert for the Gulf Coast. It raised money for the relief efforts from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
2004 - Willie Nelson performed a concert in Plains, Georgia for the TV special CMT Homecoming: Jimmy Carter in Plains.
1996 - Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Monroe died in Springfield, Tennessee.
1995 - Bryan White took "Someone Else's Star" to number one.
1991 - Tracy Byrd married Michelle Hilton in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
